My Word of the Year
This year, instead of making New Year’s Resolutions I have chosen one word to guide me and toward which to strive in 2015. The practice of choosing one word for the year is nothing new. For the past few years I have seen other bloggers share about how they selected one word for the year, rather than setting New Year’s Resolutions.
I think the idea of choosing one word is so much better than New Year’s resolutions. Let’s be honest, how many times do we actually meet the goals that we set on January 1st? Not very often! New Year’s resolutions often leave us feeling defeated and guilty because very rarely do we actually meet those goals. By choosing one word for the year you are choosing to let that one word be the focus of your actions, emotions, and decisions throughout the year.
I didn’t have my word of the year selected by January 1st. I think selecting a word of the year is a little bit more difficult than setting goals for the new year. I wanted one word that would guide my life throughout 2015. I have been looking back at 2014 and looking ahead at 2015. It wasn’t so much about what I want to accomplish but more about HOW I want to accomplish those things. I believe that Tammy from Grace Uncommon said it best.
“You see, it’s not necessarily about the word. I believe there is something intrinsically rooted in the choosing of the word. It’s not about our commitment to it, as much as God’s commitment to us.”
My word of the year is Peace.
2014 was a rough year for me.
In my personal life I went through a lot of turmoil, tears, decisions, and heartache. In my professional life there was a lot of drama and uncertainty. With my family we’ve dealt with several health problems among family members.
2015 has to be a better year.
Peace needs to be a part of my life. I pray that I have peace in knowing that the decisions I am making daily are the right ones and in accepting certain situations and knowing that God is in control of those situations.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him” Romans 15:13
So as I venture into 2015 I will live a life of peace. I will not worry about trivial things. I will live with peace and know that God is in control and guiding my life.
Have you set a word of the year for 2015?
