Today I spent the day with one of my close friend’s 91 year old grandmother. About a month ago her grandmother was doing the “hoochie coochie” dance, as she called it, just being silly for her grandkids when she fell and broke her hip. Since coming home from the hospital last week her family has been staying with her around the clock. Since I’m not working right now I offered to stay a couple days a week with her. So today I spent the day with Miss Teenie and let me tell you, she kept me on my toes! This is a lady, who even though she is 91 years old, lived by herself (until her accident) and would often walk to Big Lots and Goodwill in a nearby shopping center. Nearby, being about a mile from her home. Now that she is using a walker and has to rely on others to do things for her, it is driving her nuts! She was telling me today that she just couldn’t stand “sitting here staring at the walls”. Honestly I can’t say that I blame her. I am not one to sit around and twiddle my thumbs either. Today made me stop and think, is this what I will be like one day if I’m unable to get around? Will my life revolve around medication times, the birds outside my window and the car racing down the street? I will go crazy just staring at the wall, as she said. Well hopefully at least I will still be able to blog! At least if I couldn’t get around I could sit here and tell you all about the daytime TV shows and the birds outside my window. I hope you enjoyed Valentine’s Day! ~The Mrs.~
