Have you ever had one of those weeks where you were SO glad to see Friday roll around? This was one of those weeks for me.
Things at work have been so busy lately. I work for a company that assists hospital patients in applying for financial assistance. With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act or “ObamaCare” we have been so busy, learning new procedures and processes. Looking back this week has been a whirlwind of “busy-ness”. The type where you know you need to take a lunch break, are required to take a lunch break, but you wonder if you do take a break will you have time to get all of your work done by the end of the day! The kind of “busy-ness” where you are so busy you forget to take a bathroom break until your bladder is screaming at you!
Yesterday was a particularly bad day. I was walking across the parking lot into the hospital and stepped on a rock. The next thing I knew my right ankle twisted and down I went. I landed with my left leg folded up underneath me which caused a big scrape on my left knee. I tried to brace my fall with my right hand. I now have a swollen hand, wrist, and arm and a very colorful bruise coming out. The contents of my purse went flying across the parking lot and the car that I landed behind had their backup lights on getting ready to back up and run over me! I got up and scrambled to gather up my belongings from across the parking lot and hobbled on in to work.
The worst part about my fall was that other hospital employees were walking behind me and they kept walking. Did not even stop to ask if I was ok! Can you believe that? I live in an area where hospitality is a big deal. As a kid we are raised to say “please” and “thank you” and overall just be courteous and kind to those around us. Evidently my co-workers missed that childhood lesson!
As the day went on I started hurting more and more from my little “trip” across the parking lot. I decided it would be best to make a visit up the hall to the Emergency Room to get checked out. That’s the benefit of working in a hospital! After an exam and x-rays they declared I would survive. Just a sprained ankle and wrist. Thankfully nothing was broken.
Today however I feel broken! Maybe it’s because I’m getting old(er), I did have a birthday last weekend ya know! I woke up this morning and felt like I had been hit by a bus! Thank goodness for OTC pain meds!
Thankfully today at work I didn’t have any more mishaps but it was not an easier day as I had to terminate one of my team members. I am not one for conflict. I try to avoid it at all costs but that’s part of being in a leadership position, it comes with the job.
By the time 5:00 rolled around I was definitely saying “Thank Goodness It’s Friday!” I think after the week I’ve had I will take it easy this weekend. Hopefully I can do some blogging and learn my way around my new laptop.
