Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. They drive traffic to your site so your excuse for being on them is “I’m working.”
Are you creating content? Taking photos for your blog? Or even interacting with your family? No, you’re being sucked into the social media vortex and wasting time!
I am guilty of this every day. I think, “I’ll just jump on Pinterest really fast.” Suddenly, I’ve pinned 100 items of things that look interesting to read “later,” and nothing is really accomplished. Or I’ll open my Twitter app to see who may have interacted with us, only to realize another hour has passed and I’ve done nothing but read our massive news feeds and have not accomplished anything tangible.
My daughter sometimes makes fun of me. “Mom says she’s working but really she’s just playing on Facebook.” Has Facebook made me a dime? No. Might it? Maybe some day, but today was not that day, nor will tomorrow.
I’m trying very hard to limit my time on social media. Five minutes at a time is all I need to check interactions to already scheduled posts. Do really care what someone I barely spoke to in high school made for dinner last night?
