Half Marathons, 5K’s, Crossfit. What do these three things have in common, besides rapid calorie burn? They used to define my lifestyle. That’s until I met my ex, had a baby, and had my world turned upside down.
I’m more than a year past that horrible time in my life. Things have improved a hundred fold. I live in a lovely neighborhood, my kids are doing well, the job is great, and someone loves me. The only thing that is missing is, rather, the thing that is in excess, is fat on my body.
I’m a fairly petite person. Five foot two, small bone structure, I’m small but I could stand to lose about twenty pounds of fat and replace it with twenty pounds of muscle.
The serious quest to change my body composition begins now.
I’ve said this before, but I’m serious. The small changes you make today will improve life tomorrow. For now, I have to take it easy on any strain to my wrist. This tear in my wrist makes for a very unstable hand. I have limited strength and range of motion, but in my non-dominant hand. Cardio and lower body it is until my wrist is at maximal medical improvement. Hopefully one day it will be 100%.
Today is day one of not spending money at work for fattening giant portions of food in the work cafeteria. I brought my lunch, as I will every day this week. Once a week cooking this weekend made it possible. I allotted myself a diet soda today but that ends tomorrow, when water will be my primary source of hydration. (Coffee…that will forever be my vice! Hey, I don’t drink or have any other bad habits. Caffeine it is.)
These things will be beneficial to my body and my wallet. That and the exercise I’m doing…things will change. I want my body back! (And my energy!)
Before photos have been taken in my “I Give Up” swimsuit…but I don’t have the nerve to post them yet. Maybe after I’ve lost a few pounds I’ll share!
Wish me luck. This former fit mom can’t wait to have her muscles back, and be able to run a half marathon again without thinking twice.
