This summer just prior to vacationing in Florida, I spent a tremendous amount of time searching for long-sleeved swim shirts for my infant son. I remember being a little kid going to the beach every summer and getting horribly burned and I didn’t want that for him. Sun protection just wasn’t thought of back then as much, especially by people from the South who were in the sun all the time. I remember being miserable after a day at the beach, my clothes sticking to my sunburn, skin sensitive, wearing aloe for the rest of vacation, and my skin peeling off in sheets for days after vacation. The last thing I needed was a baby with a sunburn and a huge risk for skin cancer. After searching store after store, all day long, I finally found ONE long sleeved swim shirt in my son’s size. Had I known about Sun Angels SPF sleeves, my search would have been much easier.
The lightweight sleeves
are a polyester/cotton/spandex blend. They come in several different colors and patterns. The company sent us an adorable gray and red stars print with a galaxy blue cuff (almost Kentucky Blue!) with yellow stitching. These popular colors matched nearly all of his clothing this summer. The best part of this is they protect against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays without having to use sunscreen. I know, it’s pretty easy to just spray on some sunscreen. But do you know what’s in that stuff? Besides that, it’s sticky, sometimes leaves a white film, and stinks. Not a problem with Sun Angels Sun Sleeves!
The Sun Angels website states that “Sun Angels started with one simple goal in mind: to create kid-friendly, fashionable gear that protects kids from the sun’s potentially harmful UV rays.” The sleeves certainly did the trick. I have used these sleeves on my infant son several times in the last month and a half, and can attest that not a sunburn has been had. He is still as pale as the new fallen snow.
The Sun Angels company is a great educational resource for melanoma, sun safety tips for kids in the summer, and what I found most helpful, sun safety tips for babies. Their Sunrays of Hope program highlights children who are survivors of pediatric melanoma, something none of us could fathom. But it happens. This is why sun protection for our little ones is vital, and there are wonderful products like the affordable Sun Angels sleeves. At only $19.99, they can be worn time and time again and match most everything in your child’s wardrobe.
My little one never once cried because he was too hot, in fact, he seemed very comfortable in the sun sleeves. More comfortable than a sticky sun shirt. I was very impressed with the Sun Angels sleeves and would highly recommend them to all my friends.
