Last weekend my husband and I took a little weekend trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. If you have never been to the Great Smoky Mountains I recommend you go check it out. In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful places around.
We stayed at the River Terrace Resort and Convention center. This hotel is located on River Road in downtown Gatlinburg. It is right next door to the Ripleys Aquarium of the Smokies and directly behind the Mountain Mall. A very convenient location.
I booked our stay through Tickets at Work which is a company where I can receive discounts thru my job. I was able to get an amazing deal and got the room for about 50% off of the normal rate!
I was hesitant to book this hotel because of the reviews on TripAdvisor. So many were complaining that the hotel was old and dirty. I did not find that to be the case. This hotel is owned by Westgate so I figured that they would keep the property updated and cleaned. Sometimes you have to take bad reviews with a grain of salt!
We arrived at around 3:30 pm on Friday. Check-in was at 4:00 but we were able to go ahead and check into our room. Within two minutes of arriving we were checked in an headed up the hill to our room. Very speedy and efficient front desk staff!
We stayed in building 6 on the first level. There are about 5 or 6 steps you must go up from the parking lot to the walkway on the first floor. We were in a Standard King Room which overlooked River road and had a great view of the mountains.
The door to enter our room was from the main front walkway. We did not have a private balcony but there were chairs outside our door where we could sit if we wanted to. The room was very spacious. Probably one of the larger hotel rooms I have stayed in in awhile. In the room was a King bed, which was pretty comfortable. There was also a leather couch and chair, a small table and two chairs, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker with complimentary coffee. There was also an armoire with the TV inside and even though it was an older TV and not a flat screen it still worked fine.
Off of the bedroom was your standard hotel vanity area with a sink. To the right was a closet area and to the left was the bathroom. The bathroom consisted of a tub, toilet and sink.
Our room was very clean which was very important to us.
The only downside to the hotel that I could see is that there was not a hot tub. When I booked the room I thought I read that there was a hot tub on site but when we asked we were told they only had two pools. We would have liked to have relaxed in the hot tub when we returned to our room each evening.
The River Terrace has a restaurant on site but we did not have the chance to eat there although their menu looked great.
We stayed for two nights and checked out on Sunday. Check out is at 10am. I would have preferred to have a later check out and get to sleep a little later. The front desk staff was just as speedy an efficient at checkout as they were when we arrived.
Overall we had a great stay at the River Terrace and plan on staying there again in the future.
