Has anyone heard of Republic Wireless? It is a fairly new company (still in beta) that offers unlimited text, calls, and data at 19.99 or 29.99 a month. Yes. That cheap. Originally I heard about this on Mr. Money Mustache, a new to me blog I’ve started following recently. Everyone should check this guy out.
This wireless company has a catch- you have to use the one android smartphone of their choosing. This smartphone is the Motorola DEFY XT and although it has some issues, for someone who uses a smartphone to blog and tweet, it might be ok. The phone can be purchased for either $99 with a $29.99 per month fee, or $249.99 with a $19.99 fee.
This service can be offered so cheap because it works on a wi-fi and Sprint network premise. When close to a wi-fi network, the user is to link to that network to use data, make calls and text.
Even though I was able to get my AT&T bill down this month by cutting some services, I’m not satisfied. This company has been brought to my attention and it seems like a perfect option.
I’ve thought about this company all day! There is a 30 day guarantee, so of it doesn’t work out you can change your mind. I’ll let you all know what I decide to do. For now, my thoughts are I might be making the switch.
6/3/13 Update: I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I took the plunge and purchased the phone for $99 for the $29 plan. My intent is to bring my AT&T bill down to the lowest possible plan until I can get rid of it completely. Even with a small AT&T bill and Republic Wireless, I will be paying a mere fraction of my original $210/month cellular bill. Slow clap.
