Once upon a time a man I dated touted a theory that in all relationships, there is a “reacher” and a “settler.” What was meant by this was one person was accepting getting the short end of the stick, or simply settling, while the other is reaching for something more.
What a crock.
Real relationships are built from commonalities, mutual respect, and both parties “want” to be there. Not because one person is just there because nothing better has come along yet.
I should have walked away. The man with this theory? The Narcissist.
Yes, yes. I am happily seeing a special someone. The only contact I wish to have with this man from my past is “where is the child support you are court ordered to pay?” Why do I keep writing about him? It helps me to put my life into perspective. It helps me see things how I should have seen them way back then, before I got myself into this mess. And maybe, just maybe, someone will read about my mistakes and rethink their situation and change it for the better.
Relationships are full of give and take, of compromise, and people learning to be adaptive to others. Guess what I have learned recently?
I am pretty regimented and set in my ways. I have a routine and have a difficult time when my routine is disrupted. For example, I want to shower and brush my teeth immediately after waking up. I have a very set in stone routine of what I do out of the shower, how I do my laundry, and how I cook in the kitchen. I realized I shop in the grocery store the same way each time, and I like staying home, in my house, with my stuff, more than anything in the world. I suppose I have a lot of adapting to do in life, and need to learn to be a bit more flexible.
Keeping with this reached and settler theory, if I dated someone without my regimented habits, would I be settling? Absolutely not. We all need to be able to compromise and adapt to other people, especially of we don’t want to be alone forever.
Just a thought from the vault that is my brain.

Paleo Breakfast Smoothie
This should make two servings in the blender, approximately 10 ounces each.
2 cups of frozen fruit. Strawberries (use a little more than two cups if using strawberries) or blueberries are best. Peaches are weaker in taste and might yield an unpredictable texture.
1/2 cup coconut (use unsweetened. Unsweetened is the general rule with Paleo.)
1 cup of coconut milk (or coconut water) almond milk, or Paleo liquid of your choice.
1-2 eggs (added protein- consume the raw eggs at your own risk.)
Use your blender of choice to blend the frozen fruit with a little of the Paleo liquid of your choice. Add the coconut and eggs, and there you go! It’s a great, flavorful, carb loaded, protein packed way to start your day!
