Surfing Twitter has to be one of the most productive things I’ve done lately. I’ve discovered some very cool blogs and some of them have been life-changing.
When one blogs, it is the hope that your ideas will help someone in some way. One blog I’ve discussed before that has helped me realign my finances is Mr. Money Mustache. Lots of great information on how to live better on less.
The next blog that has changed my perspective on things like laundry and cleaning is Wealthy Single Mommy. Laying in bed last night while scrolling through Twitter, I happened upon someone who had retweeted this post about paying to have your laundry done. What about that. Something I had never really thought of! Onto Google I went to search for dry cleaners in my town that offer wash and fold service. KO and behold…a chain. Concord Cleaners only charged a dollar per pound, five bucks minimum. I figure, I’ll do my own undergarments and towels, and they can wash, fold, and press everything else I own.
How is this worth the money? I work all week, commuting to my job 45 minutes away. That’s already 9.5 hours Monday through Friday I have to be away from my kids. I also co-author this blog and run three other “businesses” I would like to be semi-successful at. Or at least make a few hundred extra bucks a month with. Can I do this if I am washing, folding, ironing, and putting away laundry? No. Could I have my daughter do the laundry? Yes, if I want to end up purchasing all new clothes for everyone because a red shirt has been washers with whites. I figure my hourly rate is worth paying $25 a week or less for someone else to do a chore for me that I despise.
I haven’t even taken a first load to Concord yet, but the thought already makes me happy. The freedoms it has already allowed me mentally has been worth it.
Check out these two blogs mentioned above. Maybe something in them will strike you and change an area of your life positively.
