How does a single mommy of an infant spend her weekend? Making baby food of course. Before you roll your eyes and stop reading- I am not one of THOSE moms. You know the type. The ones who buy organic, make all their own food, breastfeed until their kids are five, and won’t allow their offspring breathe outside for fear an allergen might find its way into their body and plant evil seeds of lifetime illness. No, I am by no means one of those.
I make my own baby food for my little one to save money. Those little jars of Gerber become pricey if you start purchasing three meals worth a day. Instead, for about a third of that I go to the market, buy fresh produce, steam, jar and freeze.
Each week I spend many hours making the food. This week I decided to go the distance and attempt to pull a Once A Month Mom (how that woman does it, I have no idea.) Today was “make at least two weeks” of baby food day. Parsnips, butternut squash, apples, carrots, sweet potatoes, cauliflower. All of the seasonal basics were put through the Baby Brezza today. Pretty soon it will be time to get crazy and make mixes more adventurous than apples and blueberry.
Playing with the Baby Brezza all day was exhausting but rewarding. Knowing I don’t have to make food for a few more weeks (I might have gone a bit far and made five weeks instead of a month) is very rewarding. A small part of me feels very relieved when I open the freezer door and see all the little containers filled with frozen treats for my sweet little one. If only I had two or three days to follow one of the Once A Month Mom menus to make a freezer full of food for me. Maybe that shall be one of my goals.
Just so ya’ll know, the only misadventure today with my baby food-a-makin’ was the sound of the Baby Brezza. My poor little bug stuck out his sweet little boo boo lip and cried because he was scared of the sound. The product is so loud, the only downside to using it. Any suggestions on a more quiet product out there?
Enjoy your week readers! What will you make on Monday?
