My kitchen was cleaned and sanitized not thirty minutes before this photo was taken! I am always in my kitchen. After work cooking dinner, on the weekend, all weekend, cooking my once a week cooking meals, fixing snacks for the kiddos, the being a chef never ends! (I use the term chef loosely when I refer to myself!) My poor kitchen is in a perpetual state of chaos.
What can I do to remedy this?
I try to do my dishes as I cook. This helps to eliminate all the dishes you see piled up on the counter. I HATE using my dishwasher these days. The electric bill last month was $300. Yes, you read that correctly. Three hundred bucks. Although we had negative temps here in Kentucky part of this massive electric bill can be attributed to using the dishwasher all the time as well as the washing machine and dryer. (Use of the dryer was something else I challenged myself not to do this weekend.)
Unloading the dishwasher when I do use it is another kryptonite for me. I get my daughter who is eleven years old to do this chore for me. I load, she unloads. Pretty soon I’m going to teach her to load. It was something my mom never had me do growing up and I really never learned! I was a sad case, having a dishwasher and cramming it so full the showers wouldn’t work. I don’t want to make the same silly mistake with my kids.
My refrigerator is another source of disorganization. I have cooking/writing projects going on daily. Leftovers fill the fridge. There are only three of us here! Yikes! We end up sadly with a bit of food waste because of this (I am trying to lose thirty pounds, I can’t eat all this!) To remedy this, I have been filling my freezer with leftovers to take with me to work. This saves money and saves against food waste.
The floor. One of my biggest pet peeves in life is dirty grout. The thought of my grout being dirty makes me crazy. Right now, with a toddler who likes to throw and spill all over the floor, my grout is less than clean, as are the floors in my house. Until my sweet little toddler gets a little older, my grout will remain a source of insanity for me.
My kitchen is perpetual chaos. Perpetual chaos. Always. It is the life if a home cook! How do you keep your kitchen clean? What is your best organization tip?
