Who We Are
April is a mom of a teenager and pre-schooler who spends her days playing taxi all over Lexington for her children and working as a case manager by day.
When she’s not running her Momma Taxi Service she enjoys finding excuses not to work out, trying out new restaurants around Central Kentucky, reading, and writing.
Crystal is a wife who love her furry four legged “baby”, her husband, and all things crafty (in no particular order). Her “day job” involves working with patients at a local hospital to help them find assistance programs to pay for their medical care. When she isn’t blogging or at work, she dabbles in cake decorating, sewing, embroidery and custom woodworking with her husband.
Back in the Day
We met way back in middle school in a town in Southeastern Kentucky. But we didn’t really become friends until a few years later in high school. We were both in an organization at school that you may have heard of called FHA or Future Homemakers of America. We were just two members of a tight little group of five girls who became good friends. Thru our high school years we traveled together to many state and national FHA conventions which gave us many great memories and we also learned so much about being leaders, strong women, and great friends.
After high school we both attended Eastern Kentucky University. Go Colonels! Although we weren’t together as much our paths still crossed throughout our college years.
Even though we were several years (we won’t talk about how many) beyond our high school and college days we continued to keep in touch.
How Kentucky at Heart Was Born
Back in 2012, we began talking about how great it would be to start a blog together. April had been a successful blogger for some time and Crystal had often thought about starting a blog but just didn’t really know how to get started. After a couple months of really discussing our ideas and throwing around some names, Two Chics and a Blog was born.
We published our first post on January 5th, 2013 and we’ve been going strong since then! We started out with lofty ideas of having a theme each day of the week and posting 7 days a week. Life soon started to get in the way and we cut back on our posts. We still like to share with you 4-5 times a week though.
In 2015 we began to focus our blog on sites, sounds, and food all across Kentucky so we felt it was time to rebrand ourselves. Thus we now bring you “Kentucky at Heart”.
What We Do
Here at Kentucky at Heart you will find lots of recipes. From Weight Watchers recipes to Paleo recipes and all those not-so-healthy ones in between, like this recipe for Super Easy Peanut Butter Fudge. we love to share with you about what’s on our table. April is an avid thrift store shopper and is always sharing great deals that she finds, like these cute Manolos. On our blog you will also find tips on budgeting, frugal living (like this homemade laundry detergent), parenting, marriage, infertility, and so much more.
