I Am Blessed
As I sit here in my warm living room, illuminated by Christmas lights, with a dog at my feet and my love by my side, I can’t help but think how blessed I am. I have so much to be thankful for this year.
I live in a house that I love in a safe neighborhood with wonderful neighbors.
I have heat, electricity, and running water.
I have a job that I love (most days) and co-workers who are wonderful.
I have a healthy family. This past year both of my parents faced cancer and each had successful surgeries with no complications. My brother also had an emergency appendectomy with no complications.
I have friends who I know I can always depend on whenever I need them.
I have a refrigerator and pantry full of food.
I have a pile of presents under my Christmas tree. I know these gifts are material possessions but it feels nice to be at a point financially where I can give gifts to the ones that I love.
As I reflect on my blessings this Christmas I’m reminded of the song “Blessings” by Laura Story. One line in this song says:
“What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise”.
The past few years have been very tumultuous for my family and I. We’ve faced many trials and battles but through it all we’ve stayed strong and stuck together. These trials makes me appreciate everything that I’ve been blessed with that much more.
Life may get busy and we may not always take the time to think about how blessed we are. I pray that this holiday season you can take the time to reflect on the ways you have been blessed this year.
We’d love to hear from you. What do you count as your blessings this year?
