I have a confession to make: never do I ever pay retail price for ANYTHING. Especially clothing.
There are a lot of people out there who have to have the latest and best new styles from the mall, specialty store or boutique. Why? These styles, or at least certain things from these stores, never change! My Ralph Lauren sweater from six years ago looks the same as my Ralph Lauren sweater from this year. The only difference: the horse is a different color and the tag is different.
In prefacing with that, I rarely buy anything new. Why would I, with stores like Clothes Mentor and Plato’s Closet. I have found Lilly Pulitzer dresses and sweaters with the store tags still attached (my favorite!) Last week my daughter was asking for Victoria’s Secret Pink sweatpants. Under no conditions, on principle alone, will I spend $50+ on sweatpants. Even if I were a millionaire. We walked into Plato’s Closet…there hung the sweatpants she wanted, for just ten bucks. Score for momma.
For baby clothes, stores like Once Upon a Child does the trick. When Boo Boo Bear was in nine months attire I found an entire wardrobe of Ralph Lauren Pima cotton layette sets all with Macy’s tags, and on top of their prices they were running a 30% off sale that particular day. Because of this and the fact I traded in his 3-6 month stuff he had grown out of, I paid less than $50 for over $350 of baby clothes.
I have friends who swear by shopping at Goodwill. They tell me stories of their incredible Waterford crystal and Christian Louboutin finds. It’s amazing what people just give away. It just goes to show that if you’re willing to be patient and wait to find a good deal, you will.
There is never a need to spend $50 on a pair of sweatpants!
In future posts, I will be sharing some of my sources for finding good deals and posting my finds of the week. Looking forward to helping you all become savvy shoppers!
