This cake is one of my favorite and most requested cakes to take to family gatherings and other potlucks. You can’t go wrong with a Honeybun Cake. When I first heard a friend talk about making a Honeybun Cake I pictured a cake made from Honeybuns but this cake is SO much better than a real honeybun!
This recipe came from an old church cookbook from my grandmother’s church. If you are looking for a resource for good recipes, those old cookbooks from churches and women’s groups are the best. You know those are tried and true recipes usually passed down through the years. You can often find these old cookbooks on ebay for pretty cheap too.
You will need:
1 box yellow cake mix
1 (8oz) package of sour cream
2/3 cups oil
1 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of milk
1 Tablespoon Vanilla
2 1/2 cups confectionery sugar
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
Mix the first four ingredients and pour 1/2 of the batter into a greased 9×13 pan.
Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 1/2 of this mixture over the cake batter.
Spread the remaining batter on top and then top with the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
Mix the milk, vanilla, and confectionery sugar together. Poke holes in the cake with a fork and pour the glaze over the hot cake.
