Another week of food waste. No photo, but here’s what went in the trash:
2 orange bell peppers
4 onions (two sprouted so I’m going to try to plant them, just to see what happens!)
About a serving of chicken soup
A serving of my sweet potato hash
Judging from the list, that’s two entire meals wasted this week. A little better than last. Hopefully I’ll do better next week!
What am I doing to prevent food waste this week?
One crock pot meal this weekend- that’s it!
Prepare a dozen hard boiled eggs. Between the Dancer and I, they will get eaten.
Cook ahead a pound of bacon
Buy enough fresh fruit this weekend for snacks, and a couple avocados for salads
Nothing too crazy. I think a big part of my food waste was that I was used to buying groceries and cooking for a family of five. Now that it’s two plus an infant, I have to learn portion sizes and JUST prepare food for two people.
Better luck next week I suppose! Check out The Frugal Girl’s blog for some great tips on how not to waste food. She posts a food waste Friday article every Friday, very informative!
How much food do you waste? Do you monitor this? How does it happen? (I’ll be honest- I’m busy and sometimes I forget to pack my lunch or am just too lazy! Not a good excuse I know!)
