OK ladies…and men too, how many times were you told as a teenager that certain foods, like chocolate, caused acne? Pick up a beauty magazine and you can almost always find an article about what causes acne.
Chocolate? Oh No!
As a teenager, and even as an adult I have battled with acne. I would read those beauty magazine articles and think, “Chocolate causes acne, yeah right…I’m not giving it up!”
A few months ago I was tested for allergies and found that I have numerous food allergies. Thank goodness chocolate was not one of those allergies! But, as I have eliminated those allergens from my diet I have noticed something… No more acne!
If I could have taken all of the money that I have spent on skin care products and acne treatments over the last 20 years I would be a rich woman! Well, richer than I am now anyways! All it took was eliminating certain foods from my diet and voilà, clear skin. I don’t know for certain which food was the culprit to my acne woes but I have a pretty good idea which one it was.
After the allergy diagnosis, I eliminated all of the allergens from my diet and have gradually added them back to see what type of reaction I experienced. So far, yeast has been the most troublesome, causing asthma, congestion, watery eyes and more. I have found I can tolerate milk products but not milk. The other foods I seem to be able to tolerate in small doses or they may cause minor digestive issues. You can read more about yeast allergies here.
I have narrowed it down to yeast and milk as being the most likely to have caused the acne. According to WebMD, milk is often considered to be one of the worst foods for your skin and complexion. I am not a medical professional so I am not telling you that these foods may be causing skin issues for you, but if you do find that you are having problems with your skin maybe an allergy test would be a good idea. Your skin may thank you!
