When to Buy Organic?
Have you ever stood in the produce section of the grocery store and just scratched your head at all the options? Organic? Non-organic? We all want to feed our families the best and safest foods possible but let’s face it, organic food can be expensive. When is it best to buy organic and when can you save money by purchasing non-organic foods?
The Dirty Dozen
The Environmental Working Group has put together a list of 12 foods to avoid. These are foods that have a high exposure to pesticides. They recommend that you purchase organic versions of the foods on this Dirty Dozen list. The group has estimated that consumers can reduce their exposure to pesticides by 80% if you switch to organic when purchasing these foods.
The Clean 15
So what foods are safe to consume as non-organic. Many of the foods on this list are ones that you do not eat the outside peel, thus lowering your exposure to pesticides.
