My blogging partner and I joined the DietBet! Dietbet is a website where you pay a certain amount to bet on yourself to lose weight. If you “win,” you split the pot with the other “winners.” My blogging partner introduced this site to me the other day when she saw it on Exploring Domesticity and it was something that I just could not pass up, especially since gaining fifteen pounds since July (the metabolism comes to a screeching halt when you stop nursing an infant!)
This challenge I chose is the six month Transformer challenge, running from January 7th through July. Perfect timing, because I foresee many changes in 2014. Several vacations (cruises) are on the horizon along with many other possibilities that will be fun blogging topics. (I know you’re on the edge of your seats with anticipation!)
There are many things to be said about the weight gain I’ve experienced. Photos were taken New Years Eve and I just looked heavy and unhealthy. I hate how I look in photos when my body looks plump and my head looks small. Remember that character on Beetlejuice? That’s what I feel I look like right now! Of course, it is my own body dysmorphia causing this, along with two decades of poor body image and a history of eating disorders.
The Beetlejuice reference is probably an exaggeration. My clothes are tight. I don’t feel like I look good in anything anymore. So a diet bet with cash on the line was necessary. Not too many things motivate people more than money!
The first leg of the diet bet is 3% of my body weight, which is 4.17 pounds, the deadline is February 7th. Whole 30, Crossfit once or twice a week, Bikram Yoga, and my Pilates Power Gym are my game plan, not all in the same day of course. As soon as I can I’ll get back to running (it’s just too cold to take the baby out jogging in this weather, even bundled up cozy in his jogger.) I used to be a fit mom and marathon runner. I’m lucky now to be able to run to the mailbox. This has to change and Diet Bet is my motivation.
