Growing up my family always had a dog outside. Our first dog was an Alaskan Spitz that was born the same day that I was born. His name was Sparky. He lived outside in our backyard until I was 17 years old. That, is ancient for a dog! We’ve had some other dogs along the way, a beagle named Jake, a beautiful black Cocker Spaniel named Jasmine, and a blonde Cocker Spaniel named Simba. They were all such good dogs. Never digging or being destructive.
That’s not the case with the two we have now! Right now I’m still living at my parents house while we are searching for new housing in this area. My parents have a German Shephard and we have a dog that we were told was a Pit Bull but we are pretty sure he has some Labrador in him as well. Even though they are both “aggressive” breed dogs they are the sweetest things.
Well…sweet except for the destructive behavior! Both dogs are less than a year old so we have two wild and crazy puppies in the backyard. I think each day they are on a mission to see what damage they can do.
Nemo, the German Shepherd, is so strong. He will find old pipes and things that my dad has behind his garage and carry them all over the yard. He even managed to chew the lid off of the pool pump!
Both dogs are big diggers! One day I looked out in the backyard and they were both over in the area where we will plant a garden this summer, with dirt flying. Both of them, noses to the ground, digging as fast as they could with their front paws. Dirt was flying everywhere. I really wish I could have snapped a picture. It really was quite funny.
But this past week they have taken their digging elsewhere in the yard. Jack, our Pit/Lab, has a spot where he always lays. I guess he has been trying to make a bigger bed for himself or something….who knows. But this is what his “bed” looks like now.
You can’t really tell in this picture but he has dug a big hole here. It’s like he was on a mission to dig a tunnel or something!
