My grocery haul today. Nope, this isn’t a coupon haul blog post, it is a “healthy lifestyle, I am working to continually change my life” blog post. The thought of perusing the organic aisle and it being my thing never crossed my mind. In fact, questioning those people shopping organic at whole foods and eating totally “clean” was a foreign and bizarre concept, until research became my thing too.
We are what we put into our bodies. Garbage goes in, and the outward appearance suffers. Not only the outward appearance, but inside the body on a molecular level.
Nine months ago I began using Thrive which is a vitamin, mineral, probiotic delivery system. Until then I had been using what seemd like hundreds of different vitamins, on top of my multi-vitamin. My diet was so void of proper nutritional value, and I had no idea what I needed to do to fix the nutritional deficit I had fallen. Before I started using Thrive, the organic section was a place I avoided.
Since beginning to focus on eating clean, more body changes have happened.
I have started paying more attention to macro-nutrients and vitamin content in my food. Cooking using whole, real foods has made meal prep easier and ensure I have the appropriate amounts (for my family and myself) of carbohydrates, fat, protein, and calories.
Food prepping helps us cut out food waste, which saves in the end. Buying and cooking organically is a bit more expensive than buying all the junk in the middle aisles of the grocery store (that are always on sale.)
Using glass containers for meal prep helps us keep unnecessary chemicals out of foods once they enter my home, and helps keep our portion sizes under control.
I have taken back control of my family’s clean eating eating. At least what they eat at home.
Mind you, if one of my kids wants to eat something non-organic or “normal,” it is ok with me. My diet is not completely organic ALL the time, that isn’t quite possible, even with meal prep. Fail to plan, plan to fail, sometimes fails anyway, and you have to realize, no one can be perfect all the time.
