In my “real job” I work for a company that assists hospital patients in obtaining financial assistance when they do not have insurance. Part of the screening process is asking if the patient has any minor children living with them. Tonight I was screening a patient who asked me if she could claim her cats as dependents.
Seriously, she really asked that. I had to pause for a moment, thinking….did I hear her correctly!
Earlier today, as I was walking my dog, a neighbor who stopped to pet the dog, asked if my dog had cataracts (because he has allergies and gets a yucky film on his eyes sometimes). Before I could answer the man, he informed me that I could have surgery done to have cataracts removed from my dog’s eyes. I wanted to say, I need my eyes checked and cant afford it right now, I sure can’t afford cataract surgery for my dog! Maybe if I claimed my dog as a dependent I can add him to my vision insurance next month and we can both get our eyes fixed.
